About Fremont, California
Fremont, California is located in the southeast part of the San Francisco Bay area. Fremont was incorporated in 1956 by merging five smaller communities: Centerville, Irvington, Mission San Jose, Niles, and Warm Springs. Fremont’s population is estimated at over 220,000. Fremont has the largest Afghan population in the United States due to fleeing refugees from civil war, Soviet invasion and the Taliban government.
There are plans in place to move the Oakland A’s baseball team to south Fremont in 2010, when the new baseball stadium is built. The stadium will be called Cisco Field and will seat 36,000 fans.
There are many historic attractions for this young city. Spend the afternoon at the Patterson House. This is George Washington Patterson’s home, restored to its glory in the late 1800’s. Take a ride on the Niles Canyon Railway. This trip was known as the Historic Transcontinental Gateway to the San Francisco Bay. Another afternoon activity could be a trip to Shinn Historical Park and Arboretum. Quarry Lakes and Fremont Tennis Center provide excellent opportunities for energy release.
Most San Francisco visitors spend their time downtown or along the bay with its piers and restaurants. Few make it out to the ocean, where there's a landmark restaurant at the northwestern tip of the city poised majestically atop an ocean cliff. The view is unmatched, and unlike many "view" restaurants, the food is excellent, too.
