Moai Statue on Easter Island


Remote Easter Island off the coast of Chile was formed by three volcanos which fused together to form the Island. Natives carved statues, called Moais, to emulate their ancesters. Each Moai is an unique creation and no two statues are alike. A moai is carved in a quarry located in the middle of the island, and transported and erected on the shores around Easter Island.

Doorway, Macha Picchu, Peru - Bulit by the Incas of Peru in the Andes, Macha Picchu was built without the use of tools. Each stone fits together like a giant puzzle piece, without mortar, and is interlocked, much like a Tinkertoy. At the top of the doorway is a notch where the Incas could secure a door against enemies.
Amazon Bats - In the blackwater tributaries of the Peruvian Amazon, bats sleep by day and feed by night. Here, bats are resting on a tree trunk.
Amazon Sunset - As the sun sets over the Peruvian Amazon, the colors of the sky intensify.
