Fremont attractions include parks, theater, and adventures in local history. If you’re looking to explore the greater Bay Area and discover city sights beyond San Francisco, Fremont attractions are a nice place to start.
Central Park/Aqua Adventure Park
Central Park offers 450 acres that include Lake Elizabeth, dozens of picnic sites, sports fields, four playgrounds, a dog park, a skate park, and even waterslides and a lazy river at the Aqua Adventure Waterpark. Winner of the Reader’s Choice Award for “Best Park” in 2010, Central Park will take numerous visits to explore in its entirety. In addition to boating at the lake, there’s birdwatching and relaxation at the Stivers Lagoon Nature Area, miles of walking paths, a golf course, and three snack bars in which to fill up if you forget your picnic lunch.
Museum of Local History
Fremont is part of an area historically known as the Washington Township, which includes nearby Newark and Union City. The Museum of Local History preserves Fremont’s heritage from as far back as the 18th century, with exhibits about early post offices and elementary schools, film making in the Niles, and even Ice Age mammal fossils found in the area.
Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum
Rediscover the pioneers of American movie-making in a historic, nickelodeon-era theater where Charlie Chaplin once sat. In addition to showing classic films, the museum promotes the knowledge of silent film history, as well as displays photographs, posters, cameras, projectors, books, and artifacts.
Broadway West Theatre Company
The Broadway West Theatre’s Company’s doors have been open since 1997, and in the years since, everything from full-length productions and variety shows to mystery dinners and summer shorts have drawn returning patrons. The Broadway West has won several Small Theatre Awards, as well as awards for Standout Classical Production, Standout Technical Design, and the Felix Award.
Mission San Jose
Out of 21 Spanish missions in Alta California, Mission San Jose, founded in 1797, is the only one located on the east side of San Francisco Bay. Hundreds of Ohlone natives came to live here, introduced by Spanish missionaries to a new way of life.
