Block Party & Back-to-School Fundraiser: Uptown Oakland event
Uptown Oakland is the place to be, and this month, four popular restaurants in the area will be giving back to the community, proving that they’re not too cool for school. For three hours on the evening of August 28, Ozumo Restaurant, Luka’s Taproom & Lounge, Pican, and Era Art Bar will host a Block Party & Back-to-School Fundraiser with a goal of raising $10,000.
The four restaurants are ideally situated on the four corners of Grand and Broadway. Partygoers who attend the benefit for Oakland schools will enjoy outdoor DJ entertainment and dancing, specials on entrees and samplers, and complimentary cocktails at each dining spot. In addition, they will get the satisfaction of knowing their $20 donation benefits four Oakland public schools that service students at every grade level: Crocker Highlands Elementary, Westlake Middle School, Oakland Tech High School, and Laney Community College, supporting visual arts programs, extended day programs, and the purchase of supplies for teachers and students.
Ozumo is known for its upbeat atmosphere, extensive sake menu, and exquisite Asian fusion dishes. Luka’s Taproom & Lounge offers a blend of Bay Area dishes late into the night. Pican’s entrees are inspired by the deep South, with everything from barbeque to “southern foie gras” available on the Southern Traditions menu. And Era Art Bar adds the organic touch to your party cocktails.
During the Block Party & Back-to-School Fundraiser, taking place Saturday, August 28 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., food specials will include a Sushi Sampler at Ozumo, Southern barbecue at Picán, and one dollar oysters at Luka’s. Tickets for the event may be purchased at any of the four participating venues. So get your tickets, come hungry, bring friends, and dedicate a toast to the Oakland schools. It’s a great way to get your much-needed night out while giving back and mingling with the community.
