ed in the San Francisco Bay area, Fremont, California, is considered a suburb of San Francisco to some and the outskirts of Silicon Valley to others.

Rich in culture and recreational attractions, Fremont also is a draw for biomedical and other technology firms to call their base of operations. Fremont is in the early planning stages of becoming a hub for a new Bay Area rail system.

Fremont is located in the central part of the state about 110 miles southwest of Sacramento, California, and 40 miles southeast of San Francisco. Fremont falls in the Pacific Standard Time zone and is about 85 square-miles in total area. On average, Fremont’s hottest month is July, its coldest months are January and December, and its wettest month is January.

The city is an amalgamation of smaller cities that were incorporated into what is now called Fremont. The incorporated cities were Centerville, Irvington, Niles, Mission San Jose and Warm Springs. Fremont is located in Alameda County. The city’s economy is based around the presence of technology, with the exception of Washington Hospital and the Fremont School District. Companies that call Fremont home are Boston Scientific, Lam Research, Sysco San Francisco, Western Digital and Seagate Magnetics.

Attractions in Freemont include Fremont City Park, a 450-acre green space njear the center of the city. A wildlife preservation project is located 2,500 feet above the city on Mission Peak. Mission Peak accumulates a yearly snowfall, but only sustains snowpack for longer than a few days if the snowfall was very heavy. Mission Peak is a popular attraction to Fremont as is considered to be an ideal area for hiking year around. The Niles District is more cosmopolitan in form. Here, Essanay Studios (the "Broncho Billy" westerns, Charlie Chaplin's "The Tramp") has its headquarters and maintains the Essanay Film Museum. Also of interest are the Niles Canyon Railway and the Shinn Historical Park and Arboretum.

Lodging in Fremont is fairly comparable with other suburbs of a metropolitan city. Most accommodations are parts of chain lodging companies. There exists the alternative if travelers prefer to camp. Fremont has several options for tent campers and even more for those looking for a place to park their RVs for the night.
